I've been working for Illumination Ent. now for almost a year and a half and it's been a blast.
There are so many fun projects in production at the studio.
The Minions, which comes out next week is an insanely funny movie.
Now, I didn't have an opportunity to work on the Minion movie, I spent most of 2014 working on The Grinch and this year has mostly been The Secret Life of Pets, which comes out next summer.
But, I did have a chance to draw some Minions.
A really exciting part of the way Illuminations does business is that they include the artists in the development of commercials, marketing, video game development and theme park attractions.
It's nice to get a chance to shake things up and bust out a commercial for a week or two, or help find unique ways to make a video game really include the tone of a movie and it's characters.
So, I was asked to help out on an, in-theater advertisement that would promote a theater-loyalty club for AMC or Regal cinemas or which ever theater wanted to run the ad in any country.
The concept was, "Then vs. Now" and that things are much better today than say in caveman days. With that and the idea that it was to be a split screen contrasting the two for comedic effect, we tried out a number of different scenarios settling on the finished ad which I've included in the link at the bottom.
(-Those cycling backgrounds were murder to keep in sync while boarding, but I was very happy with the end results. )
And the animators at Illuminations are just the best!!!
Here's the link to the finished advertisement...
